For young people

Sessions that start from who you say you are

These sessions are for trans, nonbinary and questioning young people from 12 to 24. You meet Marlin Bonner for 50 minutes, on your own. The first sessions are mostly listening: which name and pronouns to use, what you want from therapy, and what you would rather not talk about yet.

Marlin follows your lead: you set the pace, and nobody asks you to prove anything.

  • 50 minutes, on your own

  • Your name and pronouns, every session

  • You choose what to talk about

What to know before you come

  • What this is not

Ether is not a medical practice and does not prescribe. It does not offer conversion or reparative therapy. It does not write reports for a school or a court.

  • How long and how often

Your clinician sets the pace with you. There is no set number of sessions, and you can stop or change clinicians.

  • A parent or guardian usually pays, by insurance or directly. Read how fees work, including the receipt a plan may send home.

  • Under 18, a parent or guardian gives consent to start. What you say in sessions stays between you and your clinician, with limits that are explained.

Questions

Three questions about these sessions

Do I have to tell my parents what we talked about?

No. Your sessions are yours. The limits, such as a risk of serious harm, are explained to you in the first session.

Can I bring a friend?

Your clinician will talk with you about it. Most sessions are one-to-one.

What if I do not know what to say?

That is fine. The first session is for your clinician to explain how they work and to listen.
