Family sessions

Together, when everyone is ready

Family sessions bring a young person and the people at home into one room with Rukhsana Amin. They begin only after each person has had time on their own, and only if the young person agrees.

Rukhsana helps everyone say what they mean, in words the others can hear. She does not take sides, and she does not ask the young person to explain who they are.

  • 60 minutes, together

  • Only when the young person agrees

  • A sibling or grandparent can join

What to know before you come

  • What this is not

Ether is not a medical practice and does not prescribe. It does not offer conversion or reparative therapy, and a family session is never used to talk a young person out of who they are.

  • How long and how often

A family session lasts 60 minutes. Your clinician sets the pace with you, and there is no set number.

  • By insurance or directly. The fees page explains both, and the estimate you are owed if you pay without insurance.

  • Who needs to be there

Every person who comes has agreed to. If someone prefers not to, we meet with the rest.

Questions

Three questions about these sessions

Do we have to have sessions alone first?

Yes. It lets each person say what they would not say in front of the others.

Can a grandparent or sibling come?

Yes, if everyone agrees. Tell us who you would like to bring.

What if one of us does not want to come?

Then we meet with the people who do. Nobody is brought in against their wishes.

Ready to write?

Say who would be coming, and we will find a time with Rukhsana.
