For parents and caregivers

A room for your questions, and your own feelings

These sessions are for the adults at home. If your child has told you they are trans or nonbinary, or you are wondering, you meet Demetrio Ayala for 50 minutes without your child in the room.

It is a place to ask the questions you would not ask your child, to say what you are afraid of, and to work out how to support them. Demetrio does not tell you what your child should do, and does not repeat what your child says in their own sessions.

  • 50 minutes, without your child

  • Your questions and your pace

  • Your child's sessions stay your child's

What to know before you come

  • What this is not

Ether is not a medical practice and does not prescribe. It does not offer conversion or reparative therapy, and your clinician will not help you change your child.

  • How long and how often

Your clinician sets the pace with you. There is no set number of sessions.

  • By insurance or directly. Read how fees work, including the receipt a plan may send to the person who holds it.

  • What your child says in their sessions is not shared with you, except where safety requires it. Your clinician explains the limits.

Questions

Three questions about these sessions

Does my child have to come too?

No. You can start before your child does, or your child may never come. Young people join when they are ready.

Will you tell me what my child says?

No. A young person's sessions stay with their own clinician, with limits explained to both of you.

I am not sure I understand yet. Is that all right?

Yes. Many parents come while they are still taking it in.
